The Beth Rickman Memorial Concert

We encourage all band families to attend this very
important concert in honour of Beth Rickman who had been the West Vancouver
Youth Band's Assistant Director for the last 12 years. Beth was also a WVYB
alumni and a respected teacher at Vancouver Technical Secondary.
She believed strongly in the value of music and
the arts in the lives of all children and completed a Masters Thesis on this
topic just prior to her passing on July 13 at the age of 37 years.
Doug Macaulay and Beth Rickman had been planning a
concert bringing together the West Vancouver Youth Band and the band Beth
had built at Vancouver Technical Secondary, for April 2008. When Beth's cancer
returned last June, Beth asked Doug to continue with the concert in
her memory. In true band director form, she left him two pages of notes
on the concert.
This very special performance features the
Vancouver Technical High Secondary Band and the WVYB Symphonic Band side
by side along with many guests. In accordance with Beth's wishes, it is very
much a band concert and will celebrate her life through music
rather than words. The concert includes Marches, Novelty Tunes, and music
requested by Beth Rickman - including the epic Elsa's Procession to the
Cathedral by Wagner. Admission is by donation and we ask you to be
generous. This event will establish the Beth Rickman Memorial Scholarship at
Vancouver Technical School.
