Band Camp
After the first few weeks of rehearsal in September, all band levels attend weekend workshops to increase their music skills—and get to know each other too. The Concert and Symphonic Bands attend a weekend workshop at Camp Squamish. This facility, operated by the Lions Society, is ideally suited to a music camp. Students are housed in dormitories and there is a swimming pool, cafeteria and outdoor fire pit. Sectional and full band rehearsals are held throughout the weekend, conducted by our Music Director and a large group of professional musicians brought in to instruct the students. The event is organized and chaperoned by an experienced group of parent volunteers. Camp this year is the weekend of October 2-4, 2009. CAMP FORMS: Symphonic and Concert Band levels - Although registration is online, you must still complete camp release and conduct forms. These should be printed out, signed by parents, and mailed to us when registering for band.
Mail forms to the West Vancouver Youth Band, P.O. Box 91292 West Vancouver B.C. V7V 3N3
Beginner and Junior Band students attend a full day workshop in the fall. Locations have included Bowen Island and Kwantlen College in Langley. The bands are bused to the locations and spend a day in sectional and full band workshops with the Music Director and some great clinicians, and an evening of fun afterwards. Further details of this year's workshops will be available in September.
Tours Every second season, our Symphonic Band takes their show on the road. Our most recent tours have included San Francisco, Calgary, Saltspring and Vancouver Island, Hawaii, and Whistler. Our 2005 tour was a trip to Alberta. In 2007 the band visited Germany from July 1-13th.
